For anyone who loves fashion and the historic house of Dior, the exhibition space at Galerie Dior in Paris is a chance to explore the heritage of the legendary fashion maison. Situated next to the Dior store on Rue Francois ler, Galerie Dior offers the opportunity to see pieces from the house ranging from designs by original founder Monsieur Dior to present designer Jonathan Anderson.
The exhibition begins with an introduction to Dior’s childhood, and an example of the iconic Bar suit. Together with original sketches and early Dior pieces, we are introduced to some of the early influences on the designer, including his lifelong love of flowers and gardens.
Continuing on the exhibition features designs from Dior creative directors throughout the years such as Marc Bohan, Yves Saint Laurent, Raf Simons, John Galliano and Maria Grazia Chiuri.
One of my favourite segments is the part featuring the atelier, with tulle mock ups of designs from Dior. These crisp white pieces may be simple and
beautifully displayed in a simple and light room that allows viewers to see them up close and in detail. This section also features a table where members of the Dior atelier can explain to visitors the work that goes into creating such designs.
The piece de resistance has to be the large double height room, where Dior designs from throughout the years are displayed in a stunning layout. Fortunately for any visitors who are slightly flagging by this point, the room also offers a chance to sit and appreciate the beautiful pieces on show.
At the end of the exhibition there is the chance to sit and enjoy a drink in Le Café Dior, a relaxing space only open to visitors to Galerie Dior. Next to this, La Boutique offers a chance to peruse a selection of books, postcards and other items.
Tickets cost 16 Euros, full price. Reduced rate tickets are available for those who are eligible.
